OBAN

HIGHLAND

Medium-bodied, malty with a salty finish. Good as an aperitif with salted nuts perhaps.

The Oban distillery is right in the heart of Oban overlooking the harbour. It is very unusual to find a distillery in a town centre, but it predates the town of Oban. Going back much further, Mesolithic remains were found in a cave at the back of the current site.

The distillery was rebuilt between 1883 and 1887 before coming under the ownership of DCL in 1925. The still house was again rebuilt between 1969 to 1972 when the distillery maltings were closed. A Visitor Centre was opened in 1989 which attracts a steady amount of visitors. In 1990 Oban was chosen by its owners to represent the company in its Classic Malt range.

Oban has the distinction of having many Manager's Drams bottlings, which were never commerically released, increasing their collectibility.
